I combine traditional art making and references to art history with science fiction, interior design, mythology, pop culture and my personal history. I want to do this with a sense of drama as well as humor.
_I decided that I should only make work about what I know about and what I care about. So my work is composed of all these connections between x and y that happened to or interested me. I know that I come out of a tradition of art making that has all this baggage of the past that influences how we look at art. So I also want to talk about expectation and status and refinement when I make works that seem to blend the intensity of Catholic art with pop-culture hero fantasies and the gaudy opulence of speedboats, cartoons and cheap black light posters.
