“Horta is sometimes a gallery, and sometimes an antiques and design show room. It is this fact, as well as my experiences working in some of the wealthiest homes and corporate offices in New York City over the last few years that inspired an installation of sculptures and drawings that reference Decorative arts objects.

The Decorative and Visual arts celebrate opulence in materials and labor. In the home, these objects create a sense of purpose for the spaces we inhabit as well as a connection to the past.

Likewise, the mythologies we learn and create lend a sense of purpose to human existence and the things we endure.

The idea of the hero, or of being heroic reminds me of being a child and daydreaming about myself and my life, hoping that I could emulate the characters I saw on TV or in movies. Now that I am an adult the idea seems more complicated, and it is no longer so clear to me what the correct course of action may be.

The heroic characters are most interesting to me in their struggle within what appears to be a life-or-death situation. To me that moment expresses the absurdity and dark comedy of the human condition”

"Humorless Objects" at ZAIM Yokohama

Humorless Objects was an exhibition of new art work by myself and Amy Lincoln at ZAIM in Yokohama, Japan from June 26- 28th, 2008. The images below are of my piece for ZAIM, entitled "Constellation."

There are three subjects depicted in this piece: drawings made of people sleeping on the subway in Tokyo, re-productions of eye-witness drawings of U.F.O.s, and illustrations of the constellations Leo, Gemini, Ursa Major, Orion and Taurus.
